Investigating the relationship between internet addiction and anxiety and stress among students of Islamic Azad University, Kermanshah Branch

Background: The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the relationship between internet addiction and anxiety and stress among the students of Islamic Azad University, Kermanshah branch.
Materials and methods: This research was quantitative in terms of its practical purpose and research method. The statistical population included all students of Islamic Azad University, Kermanshah Branch. The sample size was estimated using Cochran's formula of 300 people who were selected by random sampling. The tool for collecting information in the current research was a questionnaire that consisted of four sections. The first part included demographic questions. The second part includes the Young Internet Addiction Questionnaire, the third part includes the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and the fourth part is the Cohen Perceived Stress Questionnaire.
Results: The results showed that 25 percent of students had internet addiction. Among the demographic variables, marital status, employment status, and grade point average were significantly related to the level of internet addiction. This means that internet addiction was higher in single and employed students. Also, with the increase in internet addiction in students, we saw a decrease in their grade point average. There was a significant relationship between internet addiction and anxiety and stress. The anxiety and stress variables were able to predict 27.3 percent of the changes in internet addiction in students.
Conclusion: In this regard, designing intervention and educational programs to help effectively reduce Internet addiction and improve the mental state of students seems essential
