Abstract:   (212 Views)
Background: Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease characterized by airway inflammation, which can significantly affect the quality of life of affected individuals. Due to its prolonged and sometimes lifelong nature, adapting to the disease can be challenging, leading to limitations in various aspects of the patient's life. The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy on anxiety sensitivity and enthusiasm for life in patients with asthma.
Materials and methods: This study employed a semi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group. The statistical population consisted of all patients diagnosed with asthma who visited Masih Daneshvari Hospital in 2023. Using purposive sampling, 30 patients were randomly assigned to two groups of 15. The research instruments included the Anxiety Sensitivity Questionnaire (ASQ) and the Life Aspiration Questionnaire (EFLQ). The protocol for the ACT sessions was based on Hayes et al. (2004).
Results: The ACT had a significant effect on anxiety sensitivity in patients with asthma (η² = 0.25; p < 0.05). Additionally, the findings showed that ACT did not have a significant effect on the life aspiration of patients with asthma (p ≥ 0.05).
Conclusion: Overall, the results demonstrated that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is effective in reducing anxiety sensitivity among patients with asthma; however, it did not yield a significant effect on enthusiasm for life.
