INSTRUCTION TO AUTHORS
 
Aims and Scope: The “Medical Sciences Journal of Islamic Azad University Tehran Medical Branch” is published quarterly in Persian language to increase the knowledge of professors, researchers, physicians, residents, medical students and making them aware of the recent technologies, some of the new medical developments and findings in basic clinical and hygienic sciences.
 
Type of articles: This journal accepts Original Papers, Review Articles from the experts and experienced people in the related fields only if personal sources and experiences have been used in them Case Reports which should be of rare cases or complications of the common diseases.
Ethical considerations:  Studies that need to be reviewed by the ethics committee can be registered and judged under the ethics committee approval number.
 
Submission Process:
  • Electronic submission: In case of electronic submission of the manuscript the authors must declare that it is being exclusively contributed to medical Sciences Journal of Islamic Azad University Tehran Medical Branch.  The text should be submitted in Microsoft Word format as an attachment. The figures should be sent in a format of JPEG or GIF which will produce high quality images in the online edition of the journal. Protection of Patients` Right : Identity information should not be included in articles, pictures, and pedigrees ; unless,it is necessary for scientific aims, provided the patient (or his parents or guardian) have signed the written permission for publication.In this regard, human experimets` rules according to helsinki declaration should be taken into account.
 
The manuscript should include: Title page; the Ab­stract; Introduction; Ma­terials & Methods; Results; Discussion; Ac­knowl­edge­ment ; References; Pictures; Figures and Tables:
  • The title page: The complete title of the manuscript, the name of all the authors with their highest qualifications, the department or institution to which they are attached, address for correspondence with telephone numbers, e-mail, and Fax number
  • The Abstract: All original articles must accompany a structured abstract up to 250 words. It should be structured as Background, Methods, Results and Conclusion followed by 3 to 5 Keywords. Keywords will assist indexers in cross indexing the article as they are published with abstract. Use terms from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) list of index medicus (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html ).  If  fore the newly introduced terms, no suitable terms exist in the mesh , therefore ,new terms can be used .
  • Introduction: After a short review of the literature, the aim of the research should be mentioned along with the logic of the research or observation in brief. Only the completely related references should be mentioned and not the data or the results.
 
Materials & Methods: The community of investigation and sampling method should be explained with clearly. Age, sex, and other important characteristics have to be mentioned.
  • Procedures, tools, and steps are to be explained with sufficient explanation so that other researchers can reevaluate the results or repeat the whole research. If drags or chemicals are used, their generic name, dosage and route of administration must be given.
The incidental clinical trial reports should provide information on all the important aspects of the research including the research protocol, the type of interference, and blinding the research.
  • Observance of ethical principles:
- Do not mention the patient's name.
- If the image is inserted, the patient's eye should be covered and consent should be received.
- In case of working with laboratory animals, the rules of care and use of laboratory animals should be observed.
- Observe the Copyright in providing information from other sources. For example, in the subtitle of an image taken from another source, permission must be given to present the said image from its real or legal owner.
- For studies that require the permission of the Medical Ethics Committee; It is necessary to obtain the mentioned permission before conducting the study and this issue should be mentioned in the article.
- Registration of clinical trial studies is required before publication in journals and before starting work in the National Committee for Registration of Clinical Trials.
   Statistical analysis: The used statistical test for any of the research variables should be indicated. Naming the used software is essential but not sufficient. Try to use median, mean, variance, and standards deviation for mentioning the results.
 
  • Results: Results should be presented in a logical sequence in the content. Tables, diagram and pictures are allocated to this section. In analytic researches and Clinical trial, first characteristics of the control and experimental group should be compared, and later the results of experiments indicated. The contents of the tables should not be all repeated in the text. Instead, reference to the table number may be given. The data should be only mentioned in one of the forms of table or diagram. The methods, analytical, procedures and the discussion should not be mentioned in this section.
 
  • Discussion: In the first paragraph of this section, the important results which have answered the research questions are to be mentioned, important, and new aspects of the research and the results based on them should be emphasized. The data or other information relating to the introduction or results should not be repeated. In the discussion, the inference of the result and their limitation should be mentioned and results should be compared to the findings of other researchers and the reason for the difference with others findings if any should be analyzed. Results should be compared with the research aim, but, unclear statements and any claims which are not supported by the findings should be avoided. If necessary, new hypotheses can be mentioned and further suggestions should come at the end of the discussion.  
 
  • Acknowledgment: All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be covered in the acknowledgement section. It should include persons who provided technical help, writing assistance and departmental head who only provided general support. Financial and material support should also be acknowledged.
 
 
  • References: References should be numbered respectively according to the references sequence in the content. References in the content of tables and tables` footnote should be distinguished by number. References which have been accepted for publication in journals and have not yet been published should be mentioned by the name” under publication”. In these cases, a copy of the accepted letter for publication should be enclosed. Articles which have been handed to the journal, but have not yet been accepted can not be mentioned as a reference.
 
Standard journal Article: The first six authors have to be mentioned and then the term etal.Then the title of the article, summarized title of the journal, publication year, volume number, and the first and the last page of the article should be mentioned. Special care concerning punctuation in the references is necessary. If the abstract of the article has only been used the   word “abstract” should be mentioned at the end of the references.

  • Tables: Each table is to be typed on a separate page, leaving one line space in between, and not presented as pictures. Tables are to be numbered respectively in the sequence of reference in the article, each having a short label. Horizontal and vertical lines for dividing different sections of the table are not necessary, and one line dividing the top columns is sufficient. All the non-standard abbreviations used in each table are to be explained in the footnote. Statistical measures for standard deviations should be distinguished and mentioned.
 
  • Figures: Figures and pictures drawn by hand, and typed are not accepted. Radiographic imaging and other investigations are to be bright in black and white, preferably in 127×73 mm size, yet, maximum 203×254 mm. Diagrams and pictures are to be numbered respectively and ordered according to the order of reference in the article. Each figure should be individually clear, and there should be no need to read the text in order to understand it.
 
Proof Reading : Proofs are sent to the corresponding author for proof reading before publication in order to avoid any mistakes. Corrections should be marked clearly and sent immediately to the Journal office.
Abbreviations and symbols: Use only standard abbre­viations. Avoid using them in the title and ab­stract. The full term for which an abbre­viation stands should precede its first use in the text unless it is a stan­dard unit of measurement.
 
Conflicts of interest:  Authors must acknowledge and declare any sources of funding and potential conflicting interest, such as receiving funds or fees by, or holding stocks and shares in, an organization that may profit or lose through publication of your paper. Declaring a competing interest will not lead to automatic rejection of the paper, but we would like to be made aware of it.
 
Copyright:Include the responsibility of the correspondent and co-author:
  1. Acceptance of the content responsibility, and ability to offend it in scientific gatherings.
  2. Giving the copyright permission to the journal, and answering all the legal claims concerning the author’s right or content.
  3. Avoidance of sending the article to any other journal until the final point of view of the authors` council (maximum 3 months the journal office declare receiving the article) is declared.
  4. Authors have the responsibility to answer those whom they thank by name in the acknowledgement.
  5. Authors are responsible for the truthfulness of the content or otherwise.
 
Peer review process: After the article has been received, it will be sent for the judges. Later on the article will be revised by the responsible author, and then confirmed in the editorial board and printed in the journal according to the preparation time.
Journal obligations:
  1. The journal will not take any responsibility concerning the disagreements among the authors, and authors with other investigations.
b)The journal is free to accept or reject articles. It also has the right to edit and summarize them scientifically and lexically.
