Abstract
Background: Evaluating the performance of emergency department (ED) staff in trauma care is crucial due to the complexity of medical environments. This study aimed to identify factors influencing ED staff performance in trauma patient care and highlight the most significant variables for improvement.
Materials and methods: This descriptive-cross-sectional study collected data from 207 ED staff in trauma hospitals affiliated with Tehran Universities of Medical Sciences using stratified random sampling. Data were gathered via written and electronic questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS version 27. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression were employed for analysis.
Results: The study revealed significant correlations (p˂0.01) between ED staff performance and key variables, including work experience (r=0.392), psychological recovery (r=0.483), triage empowerment (r=0.636), clinical care empowerment (r=0.672), and professional ethics empowerment (r=0.643). All correlations were direct and moderate. Linear regression indicated that 63.8% of the variance in ED staff performance was explained by the independent variables.
Conclusion: The results demonstrate a significant relationship between ED staff performance in trauma care and the studied variables, emphasizing the importance of psychological recovery, empowerment, and professional ethics in enhancing performance
Keywords: Performance evaluation, Emergency, Work experience, Triage empowerment, Clinical care empowerment, Professional ethics empowerment.
