Abstract: (8 Views)
Background: With the growing use of social media among university students, concerns have been raised about its psychological impacts, particularly regarding anxiety. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the extent of social media use and anxiety levels among medical students at the Islamic Azad University of Medical Sciences in Tehran. Materials and methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 384 medical students selected through convenience sampling. Data collection tools included a demographic questionnaire, daily duration of social media use, and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26 and statistical tests including the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Chi-square test. Results: The mean age of participants was 24 ± 3.5 years. The mean daily duration of social media use was 3.5 ± 0.2 hours, and the mean anxiety score was 31.0 ± 15.0. The results showed no significant relationship between social media use and anxiety levels based on usage duration, gender, or age group. Conclusion: These findings contrast with some international studies and may be influenced by the specific characteristics of the study population. Further studies considering psychological and cultural factors are recommended.
