Background: Self care education to cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients and their family is a main element in rehabilitation actions. To facilitate CVA patient’s transmission from acute care centers to society and for confidence of cares continuation, early supportive programs must carry out and evaluate after discharge.
Materials and methods: For this experimental study, 80 patients were randomly assigned in 2 groups. Firstly, we recorded demographic data and ability performance of both groups, then self care education was achieved for the experiment group. Finally, both groups were retested 45 days following the last self care education section of the experiment group.
Results: The result of the study showed a significant difference between the mean acquired distinctions in different performance field before and after education for study group (P<0.0001). In addition, the findings showed a significant difference between two groups in post test (P<0.0001). We concluded that level of performance in experimental group was higher than controls (P<0.0001).
Conclusion: Self care education to CVA patients could improve patient’s performance and may decrease the probability of complications.
