Abstract

Background: Due to the importance of using probiotics, in this study, the synergy effect of Lactobacillus and essential oils of Zataria Multifllora, Salvia mirzayanii, Eucalyptus against the pathogenic bacterium Acinetobacter baumannii was investigated.
Materials and methods: In this experimental laboratory study, Acinetobacter bacteria was isolated from clinical samples and identified using biochemical and molecular tests. The essential oil of the plant was extracted by distillation with water using a Cloninger machine and was used to identify and determine the compounds with a gas chromatography machine connected to a GC/MS mass spectrometer. Well and disc diffusion tests were used to determine the antibacterial effect of cultured lactobacilli and plant extracts on A. baumannii.
Results: The essential oils of plants do not have inhibitory effects on the pathogenic bacteria Acinetobacter. Also, L. casei has the ability to inhibit the growth of Baumani, but L. sanfranciseasis has no inhibitory effect on this pathogen. In the simultaneous use of plant essential oil and L. casei cell-free extract, the greatest synergy effect was obtained in the combination of Zataria Multifllora essential oil and casei, which has a greater inhibitory effect than L. casei alone.
Conclusion: The simultaneous use of Lactobacillus casei and Zataria Multifllora essential oil showed a suitable inhibitory effect on Acintobacter and this effect is comparable to the antibiotics used in the treatment protocol.
