Abstract:   (10 Views)
Background: Stress has been known as an important influential factor on quality of learning. This study aimed to determine the correlation between sense of coherence and perceived stress of nursing students.
Materials and methods: This study was a cross-sectional and descriptive-correlational study. The sample consisted of 292 nursing students that were included in the study by stratified sampling method. The data collection instrument included demographic information form, Cohen’s perceived stress scale (PSS-14) and Antonovsky sense of coherence scale (SOC-13).
Results: The total sense of coherence was 54.02±11.38, and total score of perceive stress of students was 27.14±8.85. The Pearson correlation test indicated a negative and significant correlation between variables of perceived stress and sense of coherence (r=-0.75, P<0.01).  The results of multiple variance test also showed that sense of coherence can predict the extent of perceived stress of students (P<0.01). The results indicate that SOC can predict perceived stress in students (P<0. 01).
Conclusion: Our results indicated that sense of coherence were predictors of perceived stress in nursing students. 62.6% of students perceived stress can be explained through their sense of cohesion. Therefore, by improving the sense of coherence, it is possible to reduce the perceived stress of students.
