Abstract:   (15 Views)
Background: Evidence-based medicine is a new approach in clinical practices. This study aimed to determine the capabilities of medical students to apply evidence-based medicine.
Materials and methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 171 medical students who were selected by stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the tool prepared by Al-Fatih Hasboh et al. Statistical analysis was performed using t-test and analysis of variance.
Results: The results showed that the most used search engine was Google (88.3%). Also, the most used sources by students were medical books (73.7%) and pamphlets (55.6%). The highest mastery of research methods was reported for case reports. Regarding statistical knowledge, the highest score was reported for the mean. In the epidemiological knowledge section, the highest score was related to specificity and sensitivity. The mean attitude and skill scores were 33.27±33.5 and 35.4±13.11, respectively. The most reported skill was related to the ability to identify clinical questions. There was no significant difference in the mean of these variables in terms of gender (p<0.05). However, a significant difference was shown in the mean scores across educational levels (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Medical students have a scientific gap in the knowledge and skills required for evidence-based medicine and have a moderately positive attitude towards its application. To address this gap, there is a need for further studies and the addition of more motivational and scientific workshops in the curriculum in a nested manner.
