Abstract: (14 Views)
Background: The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between distress tolerance and social phobia mediated by self-competence in adolescents with nomophobia symptoms. In terms of implementation, this study was considered a non-experimental correlational research based on the structural equation modeling. Materials and methods: This study was considered an applied research in terms of its purpose. All adolescents (13 to 18 years old) with nomophobia and living in Tehran in the spring of 2025 constituted the statistical population of this study. Using the available sampling method, 294 of these adolescents with nomophobia were selected and responded to the online form of the Distress Tolerance Scale of Simons and Gaher (2005), the Social Phobia Questionnaire of Kanver et al. (2000), and the Harter Competency Perception Questionnaire (1985). Pearson correlation coefficient was used to examine the correlation between the research variables. Also, the conceptual model was examined using structural equation modeling. Results: The results showed that distress tolerance, through the mediation of self-competence, affected social phobia in adolescents with nomophobia symptoms. In fact, distress tolerance, by increasing self-competence, lead to a decrease in social phobia in adolescents with nomophobia symptoms. Conclusion: Accordingly, it is recommended that special educational programs be designed and implemented to teach distress tolerance skills to nomophobic adolescents. Teaching these skills provides the necessary basis for increasing self-competence and ultimately leads to a decrease in social phobia
